Steve Bladen has 35 years of experience in project management, in the defense, engineering and marine industries, and has worked the last 25 years in senior management positions in the submarine telecommunications industry. He is an affiliate of DRG Undersea Consulting and actively supports DRG’s core team with marine expertise on projects across the globe. He is Managing Director & Principal Consultant at Stela Marine, a marine management consultancy company, offering consultancy services to leading industry players. In this time he has held management positions in a number of leading telcos including BT, Cable & Wireless, FLAG Telecom, Reliance Communications and Gulf Bridge International.
Prior to setting up Stela Marine, Steve was Marine Director at GBI where he was responsible for all aspects of the marine build of the GBI cable system, linking the Arabian Gulf countries with India and Egypt, Once the system was operational moving on to projects to extend the existing system and marine maintenance operations. In this position Steve reported to the company Executive and was the focal point for marine policy throughout the company. Steve was recruited by FLAG Telecom in 1999, as Marine Projects Manager, to construct the FLAG Atlantic cable system, the company’s first terabit system, and then continued in that role to be responsible for the marine implementation of all FLAG’s new cable systems, including the FLAG Atlantic, FNAL, Falcon and Hawk cable systems. Steve is a professional engineer and holds a bachelor of Mechanical Engineering degree from the University of Wales.
